SECURITY DUPLICATES
As part of the bank’s strategy to ensure and make collections available in perpetuity, duplicate security is required. This duplicate guarantees the availability of a subsample of the accession which is genetically identical to the original, in gene banks geographically distant; to reduce the risk of partial or total loss due to catastrophes of natural or human origin.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Establishment of standardized processes (SOPs), for security duplicates, document that describes the specific activities that must be carried out for duplication.
Safety Duplicate of Chenopodium quinoa and Amaranthus sp. and Andean roots (RAs) such as Arracacia xanthorrhiza, Smallanthus sonchifolius at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador- Ibarra campus. Also, Canna indica at the Technical University of the North.
Security duplicate of the Vicia faba collection at the Global Seed Vault of Svalbard
